Senior High School Portraits – on and off campus
It’s a joy to photograph a subject who has a picture in his mind of what he wants to see in print. Combine this vision with a kid who is prepared for the session and is prepared to have fun during the shoot, and you get Taylor.
During our pre-session consultation Taylor was very clear that he wanted an urban feel to his senior high portraits and he also wanted part of the session to take place at his school campus. Two very different locations that allowed him to show his personality in about 10 different ways.
For the urban part of our shoot I found a great alley in San Pedro that offered everything Taylor wanted. He did a fantastic job choosing clothing and accessories that complimented the setting and showed his style.
At the school, two things were important to Taylor – capturing the natural beauty of the school grounds and creating a memorable image of him in his lacrosse gear.
The wide angle shot of him on the school’s main lawn, a primary meeting area for the senior class, will remind him of this special time in his life.
For the lacrosse shoot we waited until sundown and used his car’s headlights to create the dramatic image of him on the school’s athletic field. This shot tells a story, without a doubt.
I love it when the students “get into” the planning of their senior high portraits. When they’re truly engaged and invested in making great images, the process flows and we end up with incredible shots. It was a pleasure to partner with Taylor on this session because he saw it as an opportunity rather than an obligation. He was open to my suggestions and coaching which helped him get the shots he wanted.
