Scenes from Detroit
Almost every summer I take a trip back to the Mid-West to visit family and friends. The visit keeps me connected to my roots and allows my native Californian daughter to hang out with her extended family and to experience living in a different part of the country.
Last weekend we went to downtown Detroit where I got these shots. I caught a few of the touristy things… but also some of the skeletons of the Motor City’s former self. Click images to enlarge.

Detroit’s oldest restaurant serving Classic Italian cuisine since 1890, located near Eastern Market area of the city.

Motown Historical Museum – where Berry Gordon Jr built Motown Records and musical artists like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross & the Supremes. It’s where the Jackson 5 became stars.

Former Michigan Central Station located in the Corktown area of Detroit. First opened in 1913 & had been the tallest train station in the world. Last train left the station in January 1988.

I love the juxtaposition between the bright green grass, deep blue sky, and the old beige building. There’s beauty even in decay…

Cadillac limo bodies were made in this downtown Detroit factory back in the day. The building closed in 1984.
