A Family Portrait in Palos Verdes Gives a New Dress a Long Life
I recently did a photo shoot with a beautiful mother and daughter. When I asked Lin why she booked the session – I’m always curious to know – she said that she wanted to get a little more use out of a fancy dress she had purchased for her daughter to wear to a wedding.
While I had never had anyone give me this reason before, it dawned on me that it was the perfect reason for a Palos Verdes family portrait session, and I think you’ll agree when you see the photos.
This little girl was wonderful to shoot. I chose a rough and rustic location in the Portuguese Bend Reserve to give a lovely juxtaposition to her soft and frilly party dress, and I brought the balloons to add a bright pop of pastel color against the summer-brown field.
The Portuguese Bend Reserve is made up of rolling hills, steep canyons and rock outcrops. It has intensely fragrant shrubs and flowering plants depending on the time of year you visit. It is the perfect setting year round for family photography- as well as for a beautiful afternoon hike!
Even though there was little risk of the Lin growing out of her party dress, I was thrilled that she dressed up for the portrait as well. We found a lovely (although a bit prickly) patch of green to use as a bright backdrop to show off her sage colored outfit.
We spent about 45 minutes taking pictures in different parts of the park and ended up with over 100 fabulous images. Some shots have blue ocean backgrounds, others have the brown hills… Regardless, that beautiful party dress is going to have a long, long life well after it no longer fits.
Give me a call if you’d like to have family portraits in Palos Verdes. Portuguese Bend is one of many stunning locations you can choose.
