Wedding at Wayfarers Chapel
I have wanted to shoot a wedding at Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes for years. I had my chance just recently and the ceremony, happy couple, and the venue did not disappoint!
Ru and Miguel found me on Wedding.com. They had planned an intimate wedding for family and friends and were looking for a photographer to capture not only the beauty of the location, but also the joy of the occasion. I was thrilled to do both!
The chapel is one of the most beautiful locations for a wedding in the country, if not the world. It was designed by Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright, “so that those who sat in the sanctuary would perceive the grandeur of the space out beyond and around them.” (Lloyd Wright) It is truly a sanctuary, in every sense of the word.
Prior to the wedding I took lots of shots of the family as they got ready for the ceremony. I did some posed shots, but mostly candid pictures. There’s something about dads with their kids… it really was touching how they all got ready together. (Click images to enlarge)
This ceremony was one of most emotional that I’ve ever documented. The love between the couple and their families is so strong I could feel it all around me. Everyone there could too. Miguel was already crying as he entered the chapel!
I could feel the connection that everyone in attendance had with the couple – the group shot outside the chapel was a “must have”. The church is in the background nestled beneath the redwood trees.
The reception at Ladera Linda Community Park just up the road from the chapel was a wonderful celebration. Everyone let loose on the dance floor and had a great time celebrating the Stevens-Ortiz union.
Now that I’ve done my first wedding at Wayfarers Chapel, I’m ready to do another! This event will be hard to top, though. In every way it was very special.
